Oman has signed agreements with a group of companies led by France's EDF for the development of a 500-MW solar power project and a 2,000-MW pumped hydro energy storage facility, as the country accelerates efforts to strengthen its power system and expand renewable energy capacity.

The 105-MW North Oman Solar PV project is moving forward toward full commercial operations following the successful back-energisation earlier this month.

Global utilities and power equipment manufacturers grouped under the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA), co-led by SSE plc (LON:SSE) and Abu Dhabi-based TAQA, have joined forces to coordinate action on grid supply chains, committing to three priority steps, as members alone will need close to 90,000 km of transmission cable and more than 270 high-voltage transformers by 2030.
