September 6 (Renewables Now) - Countrywide Hydrogen Pty Ltd, part of Australian solar installed ReNu Energy Ltd (ASX:RNE), has teamed up with Wirsol Energy to study the viability of developing behind-the-meter solar-to-hydrogen projects in Tasmania.

Under the plan, the companies will assess options for projects involving the installation of solar plants and battery storage systems within Countrywide’s hydrogen sites. The Aussie firm said on Monday it is working on two hydrogen production projects in Tasmania.

Wirsol’s task will be to assess the potential project sites and evaluate the potential for installing solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage capacity, which could be potentially used to power Countrywide’s hydrogen plants. At the same time, the project will also seek to determine the feasibility of co-locating Countrywide hydrogen production facilities at Wirsol's solar parks in Australia.

Wirsol is part of Germany’s Wircon Group. Last month it obtained planning permission for a 235-MWp solar project with up to 270 MWh of battery storage in New South Wales, Australia.
