French renewable power producer Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) intends to open a unit of recently-acquired distributed generation (DG) and energy efficiency firm Helexia in Brazil.
The new company is expected to become fully operational between late 2019 and early 2020, Voltalia's president in Brazil, Robert Klein, told Reuters on Tuesday. It will invest in solar rooftop systems and the construction of medium-sized power plants to supply power directly to customers.
According to the executive, the French firm is now focused on developing its solar portfolio in Brazil as it mainly worked on wind projects in recent years.
Klein also said Voltalia will continue to participate in auctions held by the Brazilian government to develop new projects and, at the same time, pursuing contracts in the country's free market.
