October 8 (Renewables Now) - French renewable power producer Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) said today it has completed and plugged in the 32-MW Ra Solar plant in Egypt.

Located in the Aswan region, this project is Voltalia’s first in Africa as a whole. It is part of the Benban cluster of solar parks that is planned to reach 1.8 GW in total capacity.

According to CEO Sebastien Clerc, Africa is shaping up to be one of Voltalia’s three key regions for achieving its 2023 ambitions. The company currently has contracts in five countries on the continent and, as at end-June 2019, a 1.2-GW project pipeline there.

Ra Solar produces power utilising its 93,150 Suntech photovoltaic (PV) panels. The plant sells its output to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) under a 25-year contract.
