UK lightweight solar panel manufacturer Verditek Plc (LON:VDTK) today announced its first orders from two new sectors for the company -- maritime and agricultural.
In Thailand, the company will supply panels to be used on yachts, where they will power the cabin electrical loads. Verditek hopes to secure more orders in this market in the coming months.
According to the company, demand for lightweight photovoltaic (PV) products in the maritime industry is growing fast, with the market said to be in the range of 150 MW-200 MW yearly in sales.
In the UK, the company will equip with solar panels the rooftops of barns. Verditek's lightweight panels are a good fit for such structures which have low load bearing characteristics, it noted.
The company will ship panels for the two orders out of its existing stock this month.
In addition, Verditek said it has secured a second order in the oil and gas sector. The contract is with Italian engineering company Endeco SpA, which will use the panels for its operations in Libya, where it provides its oil field facilities services. Procurement activities for the project will begin this week and the panels are expected to be shipped at the beginning of September.
