October 28 (Renewables Now) - Spanish-Japanese developer Univergy International SL on Monday outed itself as a winner in the recent Colombian renewable energy auction through a bid for the 121-MW El Campano solar photovoltaic (PV) project and an agreement with Trina Solar Limited.

According to today’s press release, Univergy and Trina Solar have a collaboration agreement to develop projects in Colombia, with the winning El Campano boosting the size of the joint portfolio to 256 MW.

The remaining projects will be ready for construction next year, Univergy said, adding that the sale of their generated electricity will be handled through private power purchase agreements (PPAs).

Trina Solar last Tuesday swept the auction's main round with its PV projects San Felipe of 90 MW, Cartago of 99 MW and El Campano, of then unrevealed capacity, becoming the only developer to secure solar PPAs.

The El Campano project was later the only solar project to come out successful in the additional round, held to round up the contracted power to the target of 12,050.5 MWh per day defined by the Colombian mining and energy ministry.
