October 14 (Renewables Now) - French energy major TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE) will install solar panels at some of DHL Global Forwarding’s sites in Dubai to provide it with over 14,000 MWh of electricity annually.

The freight services provider, part of German logistics company Deutsche Post DHL (ETR:DPW), said on Thursday it has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with TotalEnergies regarding the implementation of the project.

Under the plan, TotalEnergies solarise eight of DHL’s sites in Dubai to cover the equivalent of over 46,000 sq m (495,130 sq ft) of photovoltaic (PV) panels. Their installation will support Deutsche Post DHL Group’s target of reaching zero logistics-related emissions by 2050.

The solar arrays’ output is expected to offset more than 6,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the first year of operation. The produced electricity will be enough to cover the consumption of over 16,000 UAE homes annually.

Apart from the solar panels, DHL Global Forwarding will also equip the eight sites with electrical vehicle charging stations, in line with the group’s goal of electrifying 60% of its fleet by 2030.

As part of its sustainability programme, Deutsche Post DHL Group plans to spend EUR 7 billion (USD 8.1bn) for climate-neutral logistics solutions through 2030.
