to-the-point: SkyPower secures land for 600 MW in Egypt

Aug 8 (Renewables Now) - Canada-based SkyPower Global can get land for 600 MW of solar projects in Egypt under a “right-to-use scheme”, Daily News Egypt said Monday.

The paper cited Mohamed El-Khayat, head of the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), as saying that the latter accepted the company’s proposal which came with a competitive price.

According to the article, SkyPower can get 14 sq km of land west of the Nile. El-Khayat told Daily News Egypt the NREA has more land to offer.

Egypt has set a 20% renewable power target by 2022. Saudi company ACWA Power today announced it has signed the power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 165.5 MWp of solar projects in Benban.
