Chilean grid operator Transelec SA connected 1,022 MW of renewable energy in 2016, 66% of which was from solar parks, 23% from wind, and 11% from hydropower plants.
This compares to 279 MW hooked to the grid in 2013.
The company said last week that renewables now reach about 11.5% of Chile’s capacity, and they are expected to grow to 50% in 2030.
Transelec has developed a plan to facilitate the grid connection of renewable power asset based on a non-discriminatory process that also takes into account system security. It has carried out a number of connection workshops and plans to keep providing support in that area.
Transelec operates in the Northern Interconnected System Grid (SING) and the Central Interconnected System grid (SIC).
