Swiss Meyer Burger gets follow-up order in Asia

Nov 29, 2013 - Swiss solar equipment maker Meyer Burger (VTX:MBTN) today said it has been awarded a follow-up contract to deliver wire saw cutting systems for solar wafers for an Asian company.

Meyer Burger did not disclose the name of its customer, but said the order was worth CHF 12 million (EUR 9.7m/USD 13.3m). The wire saws should be delivered by the end of 2013.

The contract follows an order from 2011, when the Asian customer decided to expand its production capacities. Due to difficulties on the global solar market, however, the expansion was not completed and Meyer Burger delivered only half of the ordered volume.

As a result of the improvement on the solar market, the Asian company has now renewed its expansion efforts, Meyer Burger said. The two firms have agreed the new order to replace the outstanding deliveries under the previous contract. Meyer Burger has thus adjusted its order backlog to CHF 46 million.
