Spanish consortium Enalter, made up of solar PV specialist Alter Enersun and renewable gases firm Enagas Renovable, will explore an opportunity to develop solar, green hydrogen and green methane projects for a future lithium processing plant in the region of Extremadura, western Spain.
The Enalter duo signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Extremadura New Energies (ENE), which owns a 75% stake in the San Jose lithium project in the region, to decarbonise the processing plant.
According to a joint announcement on Tuesday, the effort will include the development of a 350-MW solar PV farm and a renewable hydrogen and methane production plant with a maximum capacity of 180 MW.
ENE, the Spanish subsidiary of Australia’s Infinity Lithium Corporation Ltd (ASX:INF), is promoting its lithium project in the province of Caceres. Under the terms of the MoU, ENE and Enalter will set up a joint company in the provincial capital that will manage the projects.
Going forward, the parties will work on the design, determine the technical-economic feasibility of the project, evaluate sites in Caceres and start the permitting process. The plan is to launch construction in 2025 and commission the facilities in 2026, the companies said.
