February 6 (Renewables Now) - Madrid-based solar project developer Powertis SA on Tuesday unveiled plans to add 1 GW of photovoltaic (PV) capacity in each of Brazil and Spain by 2022.

Power purchase agreements (PPAs) are already in place for the projects in Brazil and their construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2020. All facilities under the 1-GW portfolio will be put on stream by December 2021.

“Our main goal is to establish Powertis as the leading company in the bilateral market in Brazil,” said CEO Pablo Otin. He also added that the Brazilian and Spanish markets are two of the most active regions in the solar industry globally.

Powertis, set up less than a year ago, will also implement its first projects at its home market, where it provides turnkey solutions for the solar sector, including feasibility studies and project financing. The proposed solar parks totalling 1 GW in Spain are also slated for commissioning by end-2021.
