Feb 15 (Renewables Now) - Spanish firm Generacion Solar AR intends to develop a 145.2-MW solar project in Argentina's Catamarca province, the local government said.
The project requires an investment of USD180 million (EUR 170.5m). Generacion Solar has secured the environmental permits and did grid connection studies. This project also includes a substation, the press release says.
The photovoltaic (PV) plant will be located in the department of Santa Maria. Once completed it could employ up to 600 people, according to the company's spokesperson Alejandro Oliver.
Catamarca province was chosen for the PV project due to its solar irradiation. Argentina's requirement for an 8% renewable share in the consumption of large scale consumers has also helped Generacion Solar AR take the decision to pursue the project.
