SolarReserve CSP project of 390 MW gets enviro nod in Chile

California-based firm SolarReserve LLC today said it has secured environmental approval (Resolución de Calificación Ambiental) for a 390-MW concentrating solar power (CSP) project in Chile with 5.1 GWh of energy storage.

The company will join the upcoming auction for firm energy supply in Chile to bid for energy and associated capacity contracts for the Likana Solar Energy Project.

The power plant in Antofagasta will include three 130-MW solar thermal towers, each with 13 hours of full load energy storage. SolarReserve said that the solar park will operate at a capacity factor and availability percentage comparable to these of fossil fired power plants. Annual generation is estimated to surpass 2,800 GWh.

According to the developer, the price of the solar electricity from Likana will be “highly competitive”. In a previous Chilean auction for energy supply, the CSP firm offered solar power at USD 0.064 (EUR 0.056) per kWh.
