Solamon Energy to set up 60-MW solar project in Jamaica

(SeeNews) - Jan 25, 2012 - Canada-based renewable energy technologies firm Solamon Energy Corp (FRA:SSL) intends to develop a turnkey 60-MW solar power project in Jamaica, it said today.

The project will include three solar power systems on a 50-acre (20.2 ha) site each and is expected to cost USD 450 million (EUR 346.4m).

The company has selected sites in several parishes as suitable for the project, its senior vice president, Ainsley Brown, said.

Brown added that the revenue from the sale of carbon credits related with the project would be used to launch employee training and certification programmes for other similar projects throughout the Caribbean.

The project will be the largest of its kind in the Caribbean, according to Solamon Energy.
