Solamon Energy ponders 100-MW solar project in Nicaragua
Nov 17, 2011 - Canada-based Solamon Energy Corp (FRA:E:FSSL) yesterday said it intended to develop a solar array totalling 100 MW at five sites in Nicaragua.
The company is yet to pick locations for the systems. It is looking for plots of 50 acres (20 hectares) in size that will be able to generate 20 MW of power.
While noting that Nicaragua's recently re-elected government was committed to renewable energy and that the country was now enjoying economic growth and political stability, the company said there were risks that were still being assessed.
Solamon said that over the next year it would keep meeting Nicaraguans, look into suitable sites and work with the media to deliver messages.
According to the company, the project will be the largest solar array in Central America. In fact, it said that at the moment there were not any solar arrays in the region, although there were several rooftop systems.
