Siemens, Messer pursue 70 MW of Spanish green hydrogen in new team

Siemens Energy AG (ETR:ENR) and industrial gases supplier Messer Group GmbH have joined forces to develop large-scale green hydrogen projects and will start with 70 MW of total electrolyser capacity in Spain.

The two companies have signed a cooperation agreement that outlines their plan to work together on schemes with individual sizes of 5 MW to 50 MW for industrial and mobility applications.

The 70 MW of planned capacity in Spain will be deployed across three projects, which have already been submitted to the local government by Messer Iberica. These electrolysers will be installed in the chemical complex of Tarragona, where the goal is to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy-based hydrogen using electrolysis.

Siemens Energy and Messer’s plan is to utilise all co-products in an integrated hub concept in order to “achieve the most economic operation possible.”
