June 11 (Renewables Now) - Oslo-based Scatec Solar ASA (OSL:SSO) has achieved commercial operation of its third 65-MW photovoltaic (PV) park at the 1.5-GW Benban solar power complex in Egypt.

The company said so today, just a week after announcing the commercial operation of the second out of six plants there. Now, Scatec Solar has 195 MW in operation at the Benban project site in Egypt and anticipates completing its entire 400-MW portion of the complex in the second half of 2019.

The installed plants use bi-facial panels which capture the sun from both sides.

Scatec Solar’s partners in this project are KLP Norfund and Africa 50. Together, in April 2017 they entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the government of Egypt tied to Benban. The six plants totalling 400 MW will be able to produce about 870 GWh of electricity per year.
