Saudi Arabia’s own Acwa Power and numerous sector majors from around the world, including First Solar, Enel Green and General Electric (GE), are among the more than 50 companies qualified for 700 MW of renewable energy projects in the desert country.
Saudi Arabia’s Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO) announced on Monday the names of all companies qualified for its 300-MW solar project and 400-MW wind scheme that are part of the Kingdom’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). REPDO has shortlisted 27 companies for the photovoltaic (PV) project and 24 for the wind scheme from a total of 128 applications.
The table below gives the names of all companies that were shortlisted for the solar project.

The qualified firms will proceed to the request for proposal (RFP) stage as either “managing members” and “technical members”, or both, depending on their experience in delivering independent power producer (IPP) projects of this scale, REPDO said in a statement. It added that parties not qualified can still be involved in both projects as part of a consortium created by a qualified managing member and technical member.
“The market response to the Kingdom’s invitation to its first renewable energy projects has been overwhelmingly positive, demonstrating market confidence in our vast renewable energy potential and investment environment,” said Khalid Al Falih, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources.
The minister will announce the next phase of Saudi Arabia’s first utility-scale renewable energy projects during the inaugural Saudi Arabia Renewable Energy Investment Forum (SAREIF), to be held in Riyadh on April 17 and April 18.
