S Arabia to generate 110 TWh of electricity from CSP by 2032

Aug 16, 2012 - Saudi Arabia expects to be able to generate between 75 TWh and 110 TWh of electricity per year from concentrated solar power (CSP) installations by 2032, according to a report by KuicK research published on Thursday.

The GCC Renewable Energy Sector Analysis report stated that a total 60% of the new solar power capacity to be installed in Saudi Arabia over the next 20 years will come from CSP, while the remaining 40% will be from photovoltaics (PV). In May, Saudi Arabia unveiled plans to install 41 GW of solar power capacity by 2032, seeking to cover 25% of its power needs from the solar parks.

The research report focuses on the potential of the solar power industry in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) member states. It signals that large-scale studies and investments are being made in the region as part of the renewable power sector development. Between 85% and 90% of the investments in renewable energy in the GCC countries go to solar power, the report says.
