Dec 11, 2014 - A number of Russian companies wish to install a 100-MW solar power plant in Sialkot, the Pakistani province of Punjab.
Yury Kozlov, the Russian trade representative in Pakistan, said so during a Tuesday meeting with local exporters at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), as cited by local media. The idea is that the potential investment by Russian companies in Sialkot’s solar energy sector would help local export-oriented industries cope with the energy crisis, Kozlov added.
The Pakistani government seeks to deal with the country’s energy shortage of 6 GW through the use of conventional and renewable energy sources. Its goal is to source 10% of its total power from renewables by 2015.
Just recently, Chinese solar products maker JA Solar Holdings (NASDAQ:JASO) said it had delivered 100 MW of photovoltaic (PV) modules for the Quaid-i-Azam project in Punjab. The scheme, which could be expanded to 1 GW in the future, is a joint venture between the government of Punjab, Bank of Punjab and China's TBEA Sun Oasis Co Ltd.
