Round-up of renewable energy PPA news (Nov 26-Dec 9)

In the last two weeks news about new power purchase agreements (PPAs) for renewable energy came mainly from the US, but also from Brazil, Spain and Africa. We start with the most recent ones.

-- Salt River Project, Intel ink 100-MW solar PPA

Arizona not-for-profit public utility Salt River Project (SRP) has signed a PPA for a planned 100-MW solar park at its home state with tech giant Intel Corp (NASDAQ:INTC). The photovoltaic (PV) plant will be built by sPower.

-- Shell to get 100 MW of wind under new California PPA

Shell Energy North America US LP has agreed to buy up to 100 MW of electricity from a California wind project being developed by Terra-Gen LLC. The long-term PPA has been signed with Coachella Hills Wind LLC for a project of the same name.

-- Brazilian telecom Claro, Engie sign 30-MW wind PPA

Engie Brasil Energia SA (BVMF:EGIE3) has signed a contract to sell 30 MW of wind power to local telecom Grupo Claro.

-- Solaria, Repsol sign 50-MW solar PPA

Spain's Solaria Energia y Medio Ambiente has secured a 50-MW solar PPA with Repsol SA (BME:REP). It will have a seven-year term, starting with the commissioning of the Spanish photovoltaic (PV) plants.

-- Allete, Xcel sign PPAs for 12-MW wind park in Minnesota

Allete Clean Energy has agreed to sell electricity from a 12-MW cluster of wind farms in southern Minnesota to utility Xcel Energy (NASDAQ:XEL).

-- Recurrent Energy inks 63-MW solar PPA with Stanford University

Recurrent Energy, a wholly-owned unit of Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ), has signed a 25-year PPA for 63 MW of solar power with Stanford University.

-- Air Liquide inks PPA for Texas wind from NextEra

Air Liquide SA (EPA:AI) has agreed to buy power from a wind park in Texas that NextEra Energy Resources LLC will put online near the end of 2020. The long-term PPA is for 50 MW from a project under development in Menard County.

-- Netherlands sets March deadline for 2nd no-subsidy offshore wind tender

The zero-subsidy tender for roughly 700 MW of offshore wind at sites III and IV of the Hollandse Kust Zuid off the Netherlands will take place in March 2019.

-- Ørsted secures 500 MW of wind, solar PPAs with ExxonMobil

Danish utility Ørsted (CPH:ORSTED) will supply power from 500 MW of wind and solar parks in Texas for the operations of US oil and gas major ExxonMobil Corp (NYSE:XOM) in the Permian Basin. Through its US subsidiary Lincoln Clean Energy, the Danish company will supply 250 MW from the 300-MW Sage Draw wind farm and 250 MW from the 350-MW Permian solar photovoltaic (PV) complex.

-- RioZim mines in Zimbabwe to go solar with Univergy's help

Spanish-Japanese company Univergy International will build 180 MW of solar power generation capacity to supply electricity to Zimbabwe-based miner RioZim Ltd.

-- EDF, Brazilian co Braskem sign 33-MW wind energy PPA

EDF Renewables in Brazil will sell 33 MW of power from the extension of its 114-MW Folha Larga I wind complex in Bahia state to local thermoplastic resin producer Braskem.

-- Constellation to supply Starbucks with Illinois wind power

Constellation, a subsidiary of US energy provider Exelon Corporation (NYSE:EXC), will supply more than 340 Starbucks stores in Illinois with 100% wind energy.

-- Resolute Mining to get solar hybrid power plant at Mali gold mine

Ignite Energy Projects Pty Ltd will build and operate in Mali a 40-MW power plant combining solar photovoltaic (PV), battery and heavy fuel oil (HFO) technologies to power Resolute Mining Ltd’s (ASX:RSG) Syama Gold Mine operations.

-- Tunisia picks bidders for 800 MW of solar, wind projects

Tunisia’s Ministry of Industry and Small and Medium Enterprises has prequalified 16 companies and consortia for a 500-MW solar tender and 12 parties for a 300-MW wind auction.
