December 27 (Renewables Now) - A request for qualifications (RfQ) for a 500-MW solar tender in Oman is to be issued tomorrow, the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) announced.
The list of pre-qualified companies is expected to be ready in the first quarter of 2018 and the state-owned utility would then proceed with the tender. The plan is to award the project before the end of 2018, OPWP CEO Yaqoob Saif Hamood Al Kiyumi said, as cited by local media.
The solar independent power project (IPP) will be developed in Ibri under the build-own-operate (BOO) model. Completion is targeted by early 2021.
Oman aims to reach a 10% renewable energy share by 2025. Apart from the Ibri solar park, the investment in which is estimated at USD 500 million (EUR 421m), OPWP also has plans for wind and waste-to-energy projects.
