Solar equipment maker REC Solar ASA said on Wednesday it has, jointly with asset manager Viridis Holding, submitted an Expression of Interest regarding the upcoming 800-MW solar tender in Dubai.
REC, which has its corporate headquarters in Norway and its operational base in Singapore, and its partner intend to make a competitive bid for a portion of the remaining 800 MW at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar project, it explained.
Commenting on the move, REC’s Senior Vice President EMEA, Luc Grare, said that the company “has the know-how to implement efficient, long-running and reliable solar installations that can withstand the heat and sandstorms that exist in Dubai”.
The entire 3-GW Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum complex is expected to be completed by 2030. The goal of the emirate is for solar to account for 7% of the total energy production by 2020 and 15% by 2030.
