PowerCell, Soltech to co-develop stationary solar-plus-fuel-cells solution

Fuel cell stacks producer PowerCell Sweden AB has teamed up with solar products supplier Soltech Group to jointly develop stationary energy solutions, starting with a project that will benefit Swedish wires and cables maker Amokabel AB.

PowerCell and Soltech will carry out a feasibility study regarding a stationary power solution that will secure power supply for the customer, according to a news release on Tuesday. Through the collaboration, the pair will examine whether the mix of solar energy and hydrogen storage can alleviate Amokabel’s problem with grid capacity, PowerCell explained.

The fuel cells developer, which was founded in 2008 as an industrial spinout from the Volvo Group, noted that the two parties aim to create stationary energy solutions that use the excess electricity generated by solar panels to produce green hydrogen.
