German photovoltaic (PV) system integrator Phoenix Solar AG (ETR:PS4) said today that, alongside partner Millennium Energy Industries, it will build three solar PV plants with a combined capacity of 11 MWp in Jordan.
The solar parks, to be installed in the Mwaqqar and Damikhi/Qatraneh areas, will generate enough power to cover 100% of the electricity consumption of certain hotels owned by Arab International Hotels Plc, Al Dawliyah for Hotels & Malls Plc and Business Tourism Company.
Commenting on the news, Phoenix Solar’s head for Middle East, Klaus Friedl, said that hotels, banks and hospitals in Jordan seek to invest in solar power to cut their running costs as they currently face high electricity tariffs.
Phoenix Solar will undertake all engineering, procurement and project management work, while its partner will take responsibility for the actual construction of the plants. In addition, Phoenix Solar will operate and maintain the facilities, which will use BYD polycrystalline solar PV modules on a single-axis-tracking mounting system and SMA string inverters.
