Dubai-headquartered solar developer Phanes Group has won the tender to construct the first phase of Emirati port operator DP World Ltd’s planned rooftop solar system, which will have an installed capacity of between 30 MWp and 40 MWp.
The company emerged as the winner in the project tender and entered into an agreement though its unit Green Energy Tomorrow -- a regionally-focused rooftop solar specialist. Upon completion, the distributed generation (DG) photovoltaic (PV) installation will become the largest rooftop solar development in the Middle East, Phanes said in a press release.
As previously reported, DP World’s plans envisage installing solar panels on the rooftops of buildings and parking sheds in Dubai’s Jebel Ali free zone. The project aligns with Dubai's goal to cut energy demand by 30% through 2030 and to diversify its energy mix.
Phanes Group is 30%-owned by General Energy Solutions (GES) -- a unit of Taiwanese firm Neo Solar Power Corp (TPE:3576), or NSP. The Dubai-based solar firm expects to install 500 MW of PV capacity across the UK, the Dominican Republic, the UAE, Chile and South Africa over the next couple of years.
