Pakistan to add for 557 MW of solar by 2019 - report

June 26 (Renewables Now) - Pakistan’s Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) has issued letters of support (LoS) and letters of intent (LoIs) for the construction of 556.52 MW of solar parks, the Associated Press of Pakistan said on Saturday.

A total of seven LoS and 17 LoIs have been awarded. Seven of the schemes, with a combined capacity of 72.52 MW, are nearing financial closure, the news agency said, citing unnamed sources. These photovoltaic (PV) facilities are expected to become operational between December 2017 and March 2018. Among them are three plants of 10 MW, proposed by Access Electric Pvt Ltd, BukhshSolar Pvt Ltd and Safe Solar Power Pvt Ltd, and an 18-MW park by Harappa Solar Pvt Ltd.

Meanwhile, 17 projects for a total capacity of 484 MW are at different development phases and are scheduled for completion in 2018/2019, according to the report.

Pakistan has one of the highest solar irradiation levels in the world.
