Over 77 GW of renewables register for Brazil's Dec auctions

Sep 15 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's state-owned energy research firm EPE said on Thursday that more than 77 GW of green energy projects have registered for the two new energy auctions scheduled for December 18 and December 20, 2017.

Overall, 2,741 renewable energy projects will compete for contracts. Both tenders will negotiate contracts for power from hydro, wind and biomass sources. A-4 will also award contracts to solar power projects, while A-6 will allow coal and natural gas.

These energy tenders will award 20-year solar, wind and biomass power supply contracts. In both auctions hydropower plants (HPPs) will compete for 30-year contracts, while for fossil-fuelled power plants the term is 25.

The power plants should commence operations on January 1, 2021 in the A-4 auction, and the start of 2023 for the A-6, acoording to a previous government announcement.
