June 20 (Renewables Now) - The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (OPWP) has issued a request for proposals (RfP) to each of the previously pre-qualified applicants in a 500-MW solar tender.

The company said on Tuesday that the applicants have time until October 22, 2018, to submit their bids for the construction of the Ibri II solar plant. The investment in this project was previously estimated at USD 500 million (EUR 432m). The plant should become operational by June 2021.

OPWP started the request for qualifications (RfQ) stage in December 2017 and got a total of 28 applications by the deadline in February. In late April, it announced the names of 12 prequalified companies and consortia.

This will be Oman’s first large utility-scale solar photovoltaic IPP project and OPWP noted that it is preparing to develop more renewable energy schemes in the next few years.
