Oman shortlists 14 bidders in solar-diesel-battery tender

December 5 (Renewables Now) - Oman has pre-qualified 14 companies and consortia in a tender for the construction of hybrid power plants combining solar power, diesel generators and storage capacity.

The hybrid power systems will be installed on a build, own, operate and transfer basis (BOOT) at 11 sites. The combined targeted solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity is 48 MWp, while the capacity of the diesel generators will be 70 MW in total. Additionally, the project includes energy storage systems with an installed capacity of 28 MW/14 MWh.

The next stage of the competition will be a Request of Proposals (RfP), planned to be issued on December 15, 2019. The competitive process was initiated in August when Oman’s state-owned Rural Areas Electricity Company (Tanweer) invited Statement of Qualification from interested parties.

Winners in the tender will get 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs).
