July 16 (Renewables Now) - The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) on Monday launched a request for qualifications (RfQ) as it seeks developers for two solar projects of up to 600 MW each under the second stage of its solar programme.

The RfQ documents can be purchased by July 29, 2019, while the deadline for submitting proposals is August 26, 2019.

OPWP said that interested parties will be vying for the Mahan Solar I and Manah Solar II independent power projects (IPPs), to be installed at Manah, Ad Dakhiliyah region in northeastern Oman. The capacity of each project will range between 500 MW and 600 MW.

The projects are in line with Oman’s plan to diversify its power generation mix and increase the use of clean energy sources. In March, Oman awarded a license for the construction of a 500-MWp solar power project, known as Ibri II, to a Saudi-Kuwaiti consortium led by ACWA Power.
