October 5 (Renewables Now) - The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (OPWP) is looking for technical consultants that will provide assistance for the development of a solar project of between 500 MW and 1,000 MW.

Applicants will have time until November 13 to submit bids in the competitive process, OPWP said in the Request for Proposals (RfP) notice on Thursday. The selected consultants will also aid with advice during the tendering of the so-called Solar 2022 independent power project (IPP).

This will be the second utility-scale IPP solar project in Oman, which is trying to diversify its power generation sources. A competitive bidding process is currently ongoing for the construction of a 500-MW solar park in Ibri, the country's first large-scale IPP scheme. Bids in the tender are due by October 22, while the plant should become operational by June 2021.

Oman aims to have 4 GW of renewable energy generation capacity by 2030. In line with that goal, OPWP plans more renewable energy schemes in the next few years.
