Norway’s Nel ASA (OSE:NEL) and US thin-film photovoltaics (PV) maker First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) have agreed to collaborate on the development of integrated PV-hydrogen power plants.
The pair will first work on an integrated power plant control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Nel explained in a press statement that the network architecture will allow for the optimisation of PV-electrolyser hybrid projects, which would lead to the lowest total cost of hydrogen and electricity.
Over time, the partners will look for more ways to optimise and integrate technology elements throughout the solar and hydrogen production plant, Nel added.
"We will leverage our capabilities to extend our common product offering the end customer with a target to be able to deliver the lowest total cost of solar to hydrogen," commented Jon Andre Lokke, CEO of Nel.
