Greek industrial group Mytilineos SA said on Tuesday that it has signed a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) in Chile, backing it by 588 MWp of solar farms it will build in the South American country.
Through its renewables and storage development (RSD) business unit, the group committed to supplying up to 1.1 TWh of solar per year to Chilean utility Enel Generacion Chile SA.
Under the PPA, RSD will supply the contracted power from four solar farms -- of 109 MWp, 228 MWp, 165 MWp and 86 MWp -- located in Chile’s regions of Arica y Parinacota, Antofagasta, Atacama and Coquimbo, respectively.
Of the four projects, one is already under construction. The other three are in final stages of development, with Mytilineos hoping to break ground in 2022, the Greek company said.
The RSD business unit will be in charge of the operation and maintenance of the portfolio.
Mytilineos acquired the four projects in brownfield stage during 2020-2021. The acquisition helped the group take its first steps in Chile as an investor after previously working as an EPC contractor. The off-take contract with Enel Generacion is Mytilineos’ first PPA in Chile.
