MPC Energy Solutions connects 12.3-MW solar farm in Colombia

Amsterdam-based sustainable energy company MPC Energy Solutions NV (OSE:MPCES) said on Monday that it has finalised construction of its 12.3-MW solar farm in Colombia and connected the plant to the grid.

The company invested USD 11 million (EUR 10.2m) equity to develop and build the Los Girasoles solar farm and intends to secure debt financing post commissioning, it said.

Los Girasoles, or Sunflowers in Spanish, is located in Colombia’s Norte de Santander department. The facility is equipped with panels supplied by Trina Solar and inverters from Huawei. MPCES procured the equipment directly, while Colombian contractor Socolco SAS provided engineering and construction services.

The solar farm is expected to generate 23 GWh of electricity per year. Colombian energy trader Spectrum procured the output under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with MPCES.

MPCES said that it expects to earn around USD 1.3 million in annual revenues throughout the PPA life.
