August 9 (SeeNews) - Brazil's state-owned energy research firm EPE said Monday that 35,147 MW of wind and solar projects have registered for the second reserve energy auction, scheduled for December 16, 2016.

Overall, 1,260 renewable energy projects will compete for contracts. More details are available in the table.

Technology Number Capacity
Wind 841 21,760 MW
Solar 419 13,388 MW

The state of Bahia leads in both sources with a combined project capacity of 9,535 MW. Rio Grande do Norte and Piaui follow with 7,195 MW and 3,759 MW, respectively.

Originally planned for October, this energy tender will award 20-year solar and wind power supply contracts. The power plants should commence operations on July 1, 2019.

Back in July, Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy changed the dates of two tenders and approved a one new competition, scheduled for the second half of this year.
