Mexico gives environmental nod to 33-MWp PV project in Chihuahua

Sep 4, 2014 - Mexico's ministry of environment last month gave approval for a 33.1-MWp photovoltaic (PV) project proposed by local firm Rancho El Trece Solar PV in Chihuahua state, Spanish co-developer Energia Aljaval said last week.

Rancho El Trece plans to build the park next year by installing 137,952 solar modules and it still needs some land use permits from the ministry.

The plant could produce 71 GWh a year, equivalent to the electricity consumed by 34,100 homes, saving over 76,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.

Rancho El Trece is one of several joint projects of Energia Aljaval and Mexican Energreen in Chihuahua state. In July, the project was approved by Mexican energy regulator CRE under the scheme of small-scale power producer.
