January 3 (Renewables Now) - UAE-based Maysun Solar is opening a solar panel production facility at Dubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), local media report.
Initially, the USD-5-million (EUR 4.2m) factory will make 5,000 photovoltaic (PV) panels per month and Maysun Solar intends to lift its production capacity to 200 MW in the next three years.
The Dubai-headquartered company plans to transfer all of its activities in investments to Jafza over the next few years, general manager Sai Xuezhao said, as quoted by local media. As a result, Mayson Solar’s investment in Dubai will increase from USD 5 million to USD 10 million, he added.
Jafza is situated on Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port, which is operated by local marine terminal operator DP World. The solar factory project is in line with DP World’s strategy to promote renewables, thus supporting the emirate in achieving a renewables share of 7% by 2020, 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050. Dubai also seeks to have the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050.
