Moroccan agency for solar power Masen will become the one-stop shop for renewable energy development in the kingdom, according to a bill, approved by the government council last Friday.
The bill concludes a process of management reorganisation that the Moroccan government started back in December 2015 announcing that Masen, which has so far managed only developments in the solar power sector, will now "assure" the management of all renewable energy projects, including wind and hydro.
Masen will soon change its name to Moroccan agency for sustainable energy or ADEM to better reflect its new responsibilities.
ADEM will take charge of all projects for electricity generation from renewable sources including feasibility studies, planning, financing, development and construction as well as operation and maintenance. The agency will be tasked to do the overall strategic planning of renewable energy capacity in coordination with Moroccan power utility ONEE.
ONEE will transfer to ADEM all properties, including real estate, related to renewable energy generation.
The Moroccan agency for development of renewable energy and energy efficiency ADEREE will concentrate on the energy efficiency sector.
