Masdar Power to open 100-MW solar plant in Q3 2012

(SeeNews) – Nov 16, 2011 – Abu Dhabi's renewables developer Masdar Power plans to have its 100-MW Shams 1 solar power plant operating in the third quarter of next year, according to the firm's director Frank Wouters.

Wouters, who was speaking at a conference in Dubai, said the company is also awaiting a regulatory nod from Abu Dhabi’s executive council to establish the 100-MW Noor 1 photovoltaic plant.

Moreover, the energy group has plans for the Shams 2 and Noor 2 solar power projects. According to Wouters, these initiatives will help Abu Dhabi meet its target of generating 7% of its electricity from renewables by 2020.
