Martifer Solar, Ingenostrum team up on large-scale PV project in Chile

Aug 22, 2012 - Portugal's photovoltaic (PV) energy specialist Martifer Solar and Spanish solar operator Ingenostrum have entered into a strategic partnership for the construction of a large-scale PV plant in Chile, Martifer Solar said on Tuesday.

Martifer Solar, a unit of Portuguese diversified holding group Martifer (ELI:MAR), will supply equipment and be in charge of construction works, maintenance and monitoring, while Ingenostrum will be responsible for all engineering, project management and quality control activities.

The project site covers an area of 531 hectares (1,312 acres) in Sierra Gorda, Antofagasta, Chile.

The partnership underlines Martifer Solar's commitment to PV projects in Chile and Latin America, the company's regional manager for Latin America Alberto Rabanal said.

There is a solar power potential of some 2,800 MW in Chile, whose northern region is suffering from lack of electricity and high energy costs.
