March 20 (Renewables Now) - UK oil and gas giant BP Plc (LON:BP) has confirmed that Lightsource BP has submitted prequalification documents in two solar tenders in Oman that target 600 MW of capacity, the Oman Daily Observer reports.

BP's participation in the two tenders has been revealed by BP Oman President Yousuf al Ojaili at a Ministry of Oil & Gas briefing.

One of the tenders is for a 500-MW solar complex in Ibri. The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) in February received 28 proposals in response to a request for qualifications (RfQ). The list published last month included a consortium comprising BP Alternative Energy Investments Ltd, Lightsource BP Renewable Energy Investments Ltd and Chint New Energy Development (Zhejiang) Co.

The other competitive process is for a 100-MWp solar project of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). The successful bidder will be responsible for the design, construction, ownership, financing, operation and maintenance of the solar park, the output of which will be sold under a 23-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
