Jordan’s government will "very soon" select four companies that will add 200 MW of solar power capacity in the country, a representative for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources told The Jordan Times.
On Thursday, the government unveiled the 20 bidders that qualify for installing four 50-MW solar parks in different parts of the country. Just four winners will be announced after a specialised committee looks into the proposals, spokesperson Haidar Gammaz told the newspaper.
The list of qualified bidders includes, among others, Hareon Swiss Holding, Activ Solar, Alten Renewable Energy Developments, Scatec Solar, Suncore Photovoltaic Technology Corp, Saudi Oger and ACWA Power.
The ministry representative has also mentioned that the government is conducting studies with regard to a planned expansion of the national grid’s capacity that would enable the integration of further renewables.
The Kingdom’s goal is to reach 1.5 GW of installed renewable power by 2020.
