Good news for 84-MW PV project in Chile

Chile's Environmental Impact Assessment Service (SEIA) for Coquimbo city gave the green light to a 84-MW solar project by Austrian Solar Chile SpA.

Named Parque Fotovoltaico La Huella, this photovoltaic (PV) project represents more than USD 200 million (EUR 180.5m) in investments. Upon completion, the solar park is estimated to have a life of 30 years.

Massimo Romano, project manager, said that La Huella will be comprised of around 200,000 solar panels installed on single-axis solar trackers. The park is expected to generate enough power to cover the equivalent of the annual needs of approximately 64,000 homes, mayor Claudio Ibanez added.

The power from the PV plant to the country's Central Interconnected System (SIC) will be made through a simple circuit power transmission line of 412 meters, the government noted.
