General Electric (NYSE:GE) has initiated production of solar inverters in Brazil after investing some USD 20 million (EUR 17.7m) to install a new production line at its factory in Betim, Minas Gerais state, an official told Reuters.
The US conglomerate plans to supply Brazil’s solar power sector and possibly export inverters to other countries in the region, Sergio Zuquim, GE's marketing director for the Latin America Power Conversion unit, told the news agency in an interview.
Zuquim also mentioned that the company had already sealed four contracts with holders of operating licenses for new solar power facilities in Brazil. He expects delays on some local projects, but believes that others will proceed and that new licensing rounds will be launched, Reuters said.
