FTL Solar kicks off power system shipments for US Army in Afghanistan

(SeeNews) - Apr 18, 2012 - FTL Solar LLC, the Texas-based developer of off-grid solar solutions, said today it had commenced shipping small-scale power devices to US Army Special Forces and US Naval Special Warfare for use in Afghanistan.

The company is to deliver its POWERFOLD units that can charge small personal electronics such as mobile phones and tablet computers.

Together with its strategic partner Maddox Defense, FTL supplies tactical flexible thin and lightweight solar products and solutions to meet the military power needs and resolve issues such as the use of fuel consumables that are too expensive, unpredictable and labour intensive.

FTL's product portfolio includes devices of between 4-W and 1-kW capacity. Apart from the POWERFOLD products, the company also supplies its POWERMOD and POWERSQUAD units reaching 1 kW. These can be put together to offer shelter and to power a variety of mission critical operations, FTL said.
