Australian company Frontier Energy Ltd (ASX:FHE) has shortlisted two companies in the search for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for its 114-MW solar project in Western Australia.
The renewable energy and hydrogen producer make a final EPC selection for its Bristol Springs photovoltaic (PV) scheme in the last quarter of this year, it said in a bourse filing on Tuesday. While no names were provided in the press statement, the company noted that the shortlisted candidates have significant experience in the development of industrial-scale solar farms in Australia.
The list of potential contractors initially included five companies.
The proposed solar farm, which has the potential to be expanded to 500 MW, will be used to generate electricity for a 36.6-MW alkaline electrolyser to produce some 4.4 million of green hydrogen annually. Frontier Energy noted that the EPC selection process is only tied to the solar project and excludes the development of the hydrogen facility.
The EPC contract is a key requirement for the launch of the project’s financing phase, which is due to commence in early 2023. The Aussie firm estimates it will need some AUD 166.3 million (USD 108.3m/EUR 112.1m) to build the PV park.
