June 6 (Renewables Now) - French green hydrogen producer Lhyfe (EPA:LHYFE) intends to build a 10-MW plant to produce green hydrogen in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg to supply nearby industrial customers.

The project has received approval from the city of Schwabisch Gmund, the developer said last week, adding that it plans to seek grant financing to back its implementation.

To be installed across 10,000 sq m of industrial land, the proposed facility will use water electrolysers powered by wind and solar generation capacity and will be capable of producing up to four tonnes of green hydrogen daily. The plant is due become operational in early 2024, with its output expected to be used as a process gas by industrial clients and as fuel for fuel cell vehicles.

“Following our previous involvement in projects in Germany, this project is part of our strategy to supply Germany with green hydrogen on a national scale by 2025,” said Luc Grare, head of International Business at Lhyfe.

Nantes-based Lhyfe is already working on other green hydrogen projects in Germany and other European countries. The company has a 380.5-MW pipeline of schemes in advanced development with expected commissioning in 2023 and 2026.
