The final photovoltaic (PV) module has been installed at the 2-GW Al Dhafra solar power project in Abu Dhabi.
More than 3 million modules have been placed at the site, which is poised to become the world’s largest single-site solar power plant, and the team is now getting ready for commissioning, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, better known as Masdar, tweeted on Monday.
The project is being developed by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and Masdar, which together own 60%, in partnership with France's EDF and China's JinkoPower which hold 40%.
The huge project, which reached financial close at the end of 2020, will supply its power to Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC). It is expected to generate enough power for about 160,000 homes and save 2.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
